ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY and PATHOLOGY of the EAR
PHYSICS OF SOUND
Terminology, sound level surveys.
INTRODUCTION to HEARING CONSERVATION
NOISE and ITS EFFECTS
Auditory and non-auditory effects of noise.
Temporary threshold shift, permanent threshold shift, and acoustic trauma.
HEARING PROTECTION
Hearing protection options and usage.
CSA and NRR rating systems.
Developing a hearing protection program.
Insert Earphones Training Requirements.
NOISE REGULATIONS
An Examination of Alberta regulation and a review of Saskatchewan and Manitoba regulations.
AUDIOMETRIC TESTING
The audiometer and audiometric test technique.
Pure tone air-conduction test practicum.
Case history.
DATA MANAGEMENT
Categorization of audiometric data.
Reporting the findings to management and Occupational Health and Safety.
Program evaluation.
POST-TEST COUNSELLING TECHNIQUES
This is a 3-day course designed to meet the requirements for performing industrial hearing testing and management of a hearing conservation program.
A written and practical examination will be given at the end of the course.
